Custom finished room with crown moulding, baseboards, and architectural columns — Toronto trim installation

What trim does for a home

The finishing details that make a house feel finished

Trim and baseboards are the quiet details that complete a room — framing doors and windows, defining floors and ceilings, and giving every wall a clean, intentional edge. Whether it's a builder-grade home in Vaughan, a custom build in Richmond Hill, or a downtown Toronto condo, well-installed trim transforms a space from "construction-finished" to "designed." It's the smallest detail that delivers the biggest impact on how a home feels to live in.

What we install

From standard to statement

Trim work isn't a single category — it's a build-up. Most homes start with the standard package and layer in upgrades and architectural detail from there. Here are the three tiers we install most across Toronto and the GTA.

White 2-panel interior door with standard baseboard and window casing — Toronto trim package

Standard interior trim

The foundation every home needs: baseboards along every floor line and casings around every door and window. Most builder-grade replacements, condo upgrades, and basic full-home trim packages start here. Available in clean modern profiles — typically 4–5" baseboards and 2.5–3" casings — primed white and ready for paint. The straightforward refresh that takes a room from "construction-finished" to "actually finished."

7-inch baseboard paired with shoe moulding — upgraded trim package GTA

Upgraded trim package

The custom-home look without the custom-home wait. Taller 7–9" baseboards paired with shoe moulding, wider 3.5–4" casings, solid wood interior doors, decorative headers above doors, and backband profiles for premium depth and dimension. This is the tier most Vaughan, Richmond Hill, and Markham homeowners choose when they want their home to feel genuinely high-end — a noticeable step up from anything builder-grade.

Raised-panel wainscoting in dining room — architectural finish work Toronto

Architectural finish work

The elements that take a room from finished to fully designed: raised-panel door openings, decorative door headers, window aprons, and trim that pairs seamlessly with wainscoting — from simple chair rail and picture-frame detail to full raised-panel wainscoting for a complete architectural look. Whether you're framing a dining room, dressing a hallway, or finishing a primary bedroom, this is the tier where every wall, opening, and transition gets the same intentional finish.

Materials & Finish

Premium materials, built to last

MDF is our standard — Canadian-made, dimensionally stable, and engineered to take paint beautifully. Every trim arrives primed white, with nail holes filled and seams caulked, ready for your painter to go straight to colour. Solid wood is available for custom builds where natural grain or stain finishes are required. With dozens of profile selections to choose from — modern flat stock, classic Colonial, decorative built-up — there's a baseboard, casing, and trim style for every home, and our team will guide you through the options at your in-home consultation.

Why choose us

Benefits of trim & baseboard installation with Expert Crown Moulding

When you choose Expert Crown Moulding for your trim and baseboards, you can expect a relationship built to last. As a family-run finish carpentry team serving Toronto and the GTA for over 20 years, we take pride in the kind of detail work that turns a builder-grade home into a finished one. Here are the key benefits we promise to you:

Father and sons crew installing trim together — family-built finish carpentry GTA
01

Family-built craftsmanship

A father-and-sons crew with 20+ years of finish carpentry across the GTA. We communicate clearly, show up on time, and treat your home like our own. Every mitred corner, every reveal, every shoe moulding joint is finished to the standard we'd want in our own homes — because trim is the part of the house your eye lands on every single day.

Organized jobsite with mitre saw, tools, and staged trim materials — Toronto trim install
02

Efficient, organized crews

Trim work should never drag. Our crews show up with a clear plan, the right tools already on the truck, and a workflow built around moving fast without cutting corners. A standard four-bedroom home is typically one to five days, depending on the amount of trim and number of openings. Larger custom and intricate projects run longer by their nature. The constant across every project is the same: organized site setup, predictable daily progress, clean handoff each evening, and a crew that respects your home and your schedule from day one to walk-through.

03

Zero mess on site

We protect your floors and furniture, set up our cutting station outside in your garage or driveway, and use clean tools throughout the install. Once your trim is finished, we leave your space exactly as we found it — only better. No sawdust on your hardwood, no debris in your carpet, no stress for you. The way finish carpentry should be.

Finished room showcasing lifetime workmanship warranty — Expert Crown Moulding GTA
04

Lifetime workmanship warranty

We back every installation with a lifetime workmanship warranty. With over 20 years of experience and a commitment to precision, our trim and baseboard work is built to last decades. If anything we installed needs attention down the road, we'll make it right — that's our promise to you, for as long as you own your home.

How it works

From measurement to finished trim

Our trim and baseboard installation is built around three clear stages — designed to be efficient, transparent, and as easy on you as possible. Whether it's a single-floor refresh or a full-home re-trim, the workflow stays the same: organized setup, predictable daily progress, and a clean handoff every evening.

01
In-home consultation
Once you've decided on new trim, we'll set up an in-home consultation to walk through your space, recommend baseboard heights and casing profiles that fit your rooms, and provide a clear, transparent estimate. We'll show you sample profiles, talk through size options (4-inch, 6-inch, or 9-inch baseboards), and align on the look you want before any work begins.
02
Install day
Our experienced team arrives on time, ready to work. We protect your floors and furniture, set up our cutting station outside in the garage or driveway, and complete the installation efficiently, typically one to five days for a standard home. Every mitre is hand-cut for precision, every reveal is consistent, and every joint is finished tight — the way trim work should be done.
03
Finishing & handoff
Once installation is done, we fill every nail hole, sand all joints, and caulk seams for a seamless look. Your new trim arrives primed in white and ready for paint — your painter can move straight to colour without any prep work. We clean up, walk through the finished work with you, and leave your home better than we found it.

"I will never find a better contractor to do crown moulding than Expert. Arnie and another gentleman came to do my kitchen back in 2019 — from the time the bell rang till they left I timed them: only one hour and twenty minutes to do the entire work, from covering the floor to sizing, cutting, installing, and caulking. I was amazed how they were able to hide the joints. Recommended them to my sister the same year and she was super happy."

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How long does a trim and baseboard installation take?+
Timing depends on the scope. A standard four-bedroom home is typically one to five days, depending on how much trim, how many doors and windows, and which profiles are involved. Custom and intricate projects, such as full architectural packages or large custom builds, run longer, from over a week to a month. We commit to a clear schedule before we start and hold to it.
What baseboard size should I choose for my home?+
A general guide: 4-inch baseboards suit modern condos and smaller rooms, 5–6-inch is the most popular upgrade for typical Toronto and GTA homes, and 7–9-inch baseboards work beautifully in larger rooms with higher ceilings. We'll recommend a height during consultation that matches your ceiling, room scale, and the rest of your trim package.
How much does trim and baseboard installation cost in Toronto and the GTA?+
Pricing depends on the linear footage of trim, the profile complexity, and how many doors and windows need casings. Every quote is itemized and transparent — materials, labour, and finishing are all clearly broken down. Contact us for a free in-home consultation and detailed estimate.
Do you remove and dispose of the old trim?+
Yes — removal and disposal of existing baseboards and casings is included in every install. We carefully take down the old trim, protect your walls and floors during removal, and haul everything away when we leave. You don't need to lift a finger or rent a bin.
Will the install damage my paint or walls?+
Our process is designed to protect your existing finishes. We use careful removal techniques, fill any nail holes from old trim, and prep the wall edge so the new trim sits flush with no visible gaps. You may need a small touch-up paint pass along the top edge of the new baseboards, but no major repainting is required.
What materials do you use for trim and baseboards?+
MDF is our standard and our preferred material — it's Canadian-made, dimensionally stable, paints beautifully, and is the right choice for most homes across the GTA, including bathrooms, kitchens, and basements once properly primed and finished. We use solid wood alongside MDF when a customer or designer prefers it, or when a specific profile is only milled in wood. We'll guide you through the right material and profile at your in-home consultation.
Can you match existing trim in older homes?+
Usually, yes. Many of the trim profiles we install have been industry staples for decades, so the trim in most older homes is a straightforward match. If a profile has been discontinued, we'll find the closest equivalent so the new work blends in with what's already there.
What warranty do you provide?+
We back every trim and baseboard installation with a lifetime workmanship warranty. With over 20 years of experience and a commitment to precision, our work is built to last decades. If anything we installed needs attention, we'll make it right — that's our promise for as long as you own your home.
What's the difference between trim and moulding?+
"Trim" is the umbrella term for finish carpentry — baseboards, casings, crown moulding, chair rail, and decorative profiles. "Moulding" usually refers to the decorative profiled pieces specifically (like crown). Most homeowners use the words interchangeably, and we install all of it.
Can you make trim look straight if my walls aren't perfectly square?+
Yes — and this is one of the things that separates a finish carpenter from a generalist. We shim, scribe, and cope joints to visually straighten lines, then fill or caulk any small gaps for a clean continuous finish. Older Toronto homes especially benefit — we've installed trim in century homes across the GTA where nothing was square, and the finished result reads perfectly straight.
What's included in your trim installation pricing?+
Every quote includes the materials specified, full installation, removal and disposal of existing trim, filled nail holes, sanded joints, and caulked seams — handed off primed and paint-ready. Painting itself is not included, and any major drywall repair or framing fixes outside scope are flagged separately and quoted in writing. No hidden fees, no day-of surprises.
How should I prep my home before installation day?+
Clear the work areas — move small furniture, lamps, pictures, and breakables away from the walls being trimmed. Decide on your final baseboard and casing profiles before we arrive. We handle floor and furniture protection and clean up daily. You handle access (parking, key, alarm code) and any pets-and-kids logistics during install hours.
How do I maintain painted MDF trim and baseboards?+
Dust regularly and wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap when needed — avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads. Touch up small chips promptly with leftover paint, and re-caulk any fine gaps as the home settles over the years. Properly installed primed MDF holds up beautifully for decades when finished with a quality paint.
Do you install trim and baseboards across the entire GTA?+
Yes — we serve Toronto, Etobicoke, Scarborough, Vaughan, Woodbridge, Richmond Hill, Markham, Aurora, Newmarket, Stouffville, Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, Oakville, Mississauga, Brampton, and surrounding areas. Outside the GTA? Get in touch — we travel for full-home and custom builds.
